Skyrim SE / AE: mod conflicts and session evidence

Published 22 October 2026. Steps for collecting evidence; results depend on your installation and the profile coverage.

Identify versions first

Record the Skyrim version, add-ons, mod manager and additional tools. Check compatibility requirements with the authors of each tool and mod. Do not assume that every package labelled SE or AE fits every game version.

Separate configuration from cause

A dependency or file warning is a clue. It does not necessarily explain a particular crash. Distinguish startup failure, save loading issues and crashes during gameplay.

Preserve the profile and collect a report

Back up saves and the mod profile. Record load order, the time of the issue and steps to reproduce it. Check the actual Skyrim profile scope in CRASQ and evidence from the relevant session.

Interpret results cautiously

Avoid removing multiple mods at once from an existing save. Use a safe copy or test profile and follow author guidance. When evidence is insufficient, uncertainty is a better conclusion than guessing a culprit.
